JUNGLE CONCERT IN LA

KOREA'S BIGGEST HIP-HOP STARS
PERFORMING IN A JOINT CONCERT

FRI. DEC. 2, 2011 8PM AT THE WILTERN

FEATURING TIGER JK, YOON MIRAE, LEESSANG, JUNG IN & BIZZY

The Wiltern Theater and adjacent 12-story Pellissier Building is an Art Deco landmark located in the heart of Koreatown on the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue in Los Angeles, California. Named after the family that owned the land upon which it was developed, the Pellissier Building is a 12-story steel-reinforced concrete office tower. Set upon a two story pedestal that contains ground floor retail and the theater entrance, the tower has narrow vertical windows that sweep the eye upward and create the illusion of a much taller building (buildings in Los Angeles were restricted from being higher than the city hall until the 1960s). The blue-green, terra cotta-covered tower has been described as French Zig-Zag Moderne styling.

During the 1970s, preservationists realized the theater was in danger and so ensued years of fighting to save the Wiltern. The preservation of the Wiltern was one of the Los Angeles Conservancy's first victories in its fight to preserve the architectural heritage of the City. Finally, in 1981, Ratkovich Company purchased the theater and restored the Wiltern to its original richness and splendor. The Wiltern received a final face-lift in 2002 when many of its seats were removed to allow a standing-room only section. Many believe the Wiltern is a special venue because it can host both seated events and standing events.

Both the Wiltern Theatre and the Pellissier Building have been named to the National Register of Historic Places and declared a Historic-Cultural Monument by the City of Los Angeles. The venue remains one of the largest and celebrity based theaters in Los Angeles.

Surrounding the infamous Wiltern Theatre is the heart of the Los Angeles district of Koreatown. Koreatown ranks as the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in North America and is ranked America's 8th Fuel-Efficient Neighborhood for 2008 by Forbes Magazine and is considered one of the top walkable neighborhoods in the nation. Today, Koreatown leads Los Angeles in its effort for gentrification. The neighborhood is known for its many commercial and residential mid and high rise towers, its rich collection of pre-1940 brick colonial revival buildings, Asian high fashion boutiques, the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, and holding the largest concentration of nightclubs and 24-hour businesses and restaurants in Southern California.
