I'm happy for the South Bronx today!
I grew up in the late 60's early 70's and the entire 80's in Fort Apache (East 144th. & Jackson Ave.)
Back then the South Bronx was a daily war zone!

Well, when they did the before and after, they showed some of the nicer looking blocks in the borough after. There are many less vacant buildings in the Bronx, but much of the borough is still very poor and buildings are still in poor condition. Not to mention the crime which is still a problem.
At one point though, nothing was uglier. Place looked like a bomb hit it. Detroit, Camden, Gary, no where near the destruction.

The Bronx is in my opinion one of the most underrated cities. Its really not such a bad place as it used to be in the 70's and 80's. There's plenty of beautiful places like Pelham Parkway, Pelham Bay, Throggs Neck, Far East Tremont, Riverdale, Van Cortlandt park. Awesome place.
