I decided to take a break from the videos I usually make for right now.
This is just to show some Atari games that I have. Most are good. 1 or 2 are really bad. 1 is the worst game I've ever played.

Adventure - Zelda 2 'Palace'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

Asteroids - Zanac 'Title'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

Bowling - Battletoads 'Arctic Cavern'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

Combat - Astyanax 'Red Road'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

Defender - BattleToads 'Volkmier's Inferno'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

E.T. - an NSF music file I made 'UNTITLED.nsf'
First off, note that this has been called the worst game ever. Rather than review it like the Angry Video Game Nerd, I just want to explain this game. I spent about 20 minutes really trying to figure it out. This is what I came up with. The game starts with a title screen and actual music. I don't know if it's really the E.T. theme song. But with a nice picture and first actual videogame music, it did good on that part. Anyway, the first thing you see is E.T. land on I think in a forest or something, and then the ship leaves. From what I understand, you wander around gathering little dots which I guess are your points. So rather than having an action game, it was an item collecting game. The basic idea is that you gather these dots for points, avoid the holes all over the place, and avoid the people walking around. When they get you, they take you to something that resembles a cage I guess. Just move randomly and you break free. Press the button to walk fast or extend your neck. Unless you fell down a hole, the neck extending move is useless. The number on the bottom screen tells you how many steps you've taken. When it reaches zero (assuming you sit through the game that long), you can't move. But some guy walks up to you, touches you, then you get another 5000 steps. The map itself lacks consistency. It's so bad that I can't even map it. I show this when you walk from one screen to another, it either repeats or takes you to a different screen. So, I forced myself to play this game long enough to figure it out. I explained how it works and the tip of the day is NEVER play this game. I didn't pay for it. It was given to me from someone who doesn't even have an Atari.

Missile Command - Mega Man 5 'Star Man'
This is the best Atari game I've ever played. It's fun, it has high replay value, you get bonuses, it's easy to play, and the overall gameplay is perfect what you do. Defend the cities from the missiles. Press the button on where your cursor is to shoot a missile and have it explode there. I think that this game is what's called A+ material. It's 1981, give it a break.

Ms. Pac-Man - Chip N Dale 'Stage 7'
I can't say much about this game other than I prefer the Nintendo version. It's one of the earliest videogames I've seen, and still is being made for today's consoles. That's saying enough.

Phoenix - Gradius II 'Burning Heat'
Even though this game is very basic, and even available for TI83+ and higher calculators, I still consider it to be one of the best vertical plane shooter games. I've played this game in an Arcade and the only difference is that the Arcades have better graphics. Shoot all the enemies on the screen while avoiding them as they fall. After defeating that set, a new set appears. This is one of the first games that had multiple levels instead of multiple maps. After you beat a certain amount of levels, you battle against a boss. I died after the first boss to end the game.

Space Invaders - Duck Tales 'The Moon'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

Superman - Mega Man 9 'Thunder Tornado'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

Video Pinball - Chip N Dale 'Stage 05'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

Video Olympics - Tetris 'Type B'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYo2sqhRIw

I decided to add my own music unless the game actually had any. I hope you enjoyed my music selection. I also left the Atari in B&W mode for true Atari gameplay.

I also added my own nsf that I tried to recompose at the end of the video. Check it out. The program I used to make NES sounding music is not a typical music maker. It's more of a hex editor.

  • @PrinzessinRamode Nintendo is a business, and they think right now that branching out to different audiences is the way to make money. I think they should do what they did best though - invent new characters (when they showed off Wii Sports to test audiences, the audiences liked the game more when it DIDN'T have Mario in it), and new franchises, and keep the mantra of "no long intro, easy to learn gameplay". Someone needs to do it, at least.

  • @daytimesky so... Nintendo is doing the same thing they did with Kirby Epic Yarn. They probably thought the games had no chance of selling unless they put in a Nintendo character. Having the touch screen controls is one thing, but disabling the control is just dumb. Nintendo does not seem to know how to please a traditional gamer (or a loyal fan for the last 20 years) and newer gamers.

  • @PrinzessinRamode Kid Icarus Uprising actually has no relationship to the NES/Gameboy Kid Icarus games. It was originally meant to be a totally different game, then Nintendo saw the gameplay concept and said "Kid Icarus would be the perfect franchise for this".

But yeah, the touch screen aspect for aiming is weird (I'd prefer a second analog stick), but I thought it looked a lot of fun.

  • @daytimesky I will completely ignore Kid Icarus for 2 reasons. I never liked the first one, second, Kid Icarus is a touch screen game.

  • @PrinzessinRamode VERY agreed!! I admit I do sometimes like the story segments in games, depending on the game. But it seems like EVERY game is trying too hard to tell a story, be way too complex, and so on. It makes me not look forward to playing them.

In that case, have you seen video footage of Kid Icarus Uprising? In that game, the only controls are move, aim, shoot. And as far as story goes, it's in-game dialog similar to Star Fox. Are you looking forward to it?

  • @daytimesky I guess my biggest issue with modern games is that tend to try to be overly complex and packed filled with too much content for what you are playing. Also, in modern games, you usually have to sit through about 30 - 40 minutes and play through all the tutorials before you can actually do anything on your own to decide if the game is worth my time. In retro games, it takes about 30 seconds.

  • @daytimesky modern games just don't feel like games to me like I mentioned earlier, they feel more like interactive media than videogames. The only games for Dreamcast I actually play are Sonic and Gauntlet Legends. For PS2, I really haven't played that in years, but I only really play DDR on that. For Wii, the games are just not all that good because I can't stand the controller. Super Smash Brawl is an example of a game that was ruined because they had to "balance" the game out.Mario Kart too.

  • @PrinzessinRamode What exactly turns you off about modern games, considering you own so many games for the Dreamcast, Wii and PS2? I think modern games pretty much just extensions of the previous generation but with a bigger budget if anything. And the price being up a bit more.

  • @PrinzessinRamode Yeah, it seems if you're looking for a lower priced modern game, the best place to look is in the online stores. However, the online stores are also more likely to sell games that play like the older ones. I think the online stores are worth checking out. Games like Spelunker HD on the PS3, for example, have that "pick up and play" mentality, while still being cheap.

Have you ever played Alley Cat for the Atari800? Now that's a favorite of mine. So much fun.

  • @daytimesky yes, there are a lot of bad games. I was looking for a good horror game, so I ordered Ju-On, it sucks because the controls are atrocious. A lot of NES games weren't the greatest, but they cost 1/2 the price of modern games back then and were easier to tell if they were bad. Now, you have to play like a good 20 or 30 minutes to determine if a game is bad.

Modern games, Super Mario Galaxy, Kororinpa, Touhou, beatmania, for now, that is all I can think of.
