The rule of not forcing your self into the 'correct' posture is particularly important when you're working with the shoulder joint/shoulder blade connections. Don't compromise other important aspects to the overall alignment of the whole body, but let you're teacher guide you, they should know all the necessary exercises to get the job done, and be able to work at them at a pace that fits you as a unique individual.
