Nice dish! I wouldnt be too upset over the "not authentic" comments...I have had the Hungarian type, and it IS good...but way to heavy for most folks, especially kids. I make mine similar to yours. Im Italian & I never get upset when I see an Americanized versions of Italian food on YT. It can still be delicious in it's own right. Here's a chuckle for you..GIADA...born and raised in Italy...puts KETCHUP in her Italian meatballs! I say if you enjoy something, then why not? Take Care.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Goulash. It's a shameful recipe.

I'm Hungarian and I realize that goulash isn't exclusively a Hungarian dish (other European countries have enjoyed their own variations for many years), and it was always supposed to be a flexible recipe (based on whatever ingredients and methods a peasant had available). But I have to say, that electric wok and macaroni really give your version a distinctive trailer park character.

I just made this. The family liked it a lot. Thanks for the video.

yummy :) also good recipe
-
@Junestarlet Yes, if you make it, you can call it anything you want. Who needs Recipe Police?
-
@ramzing This recipe is common in the states. Not to be a cad to the video maker, but he did say it is an "old world" recipe. And it's clearly not gulyas leves. However, I think it's tremendously silly that anyone thinks they own a word.

Everybody cook different

@bgulyas That's all wonderful but we live in America and this is what quite a few of us call goulash here. We didn't call it American goulash he was simply trying to be polite due to your irrelevant comment. Here in America we also learn "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all". Maybe you should try it sometime : ) Until then how about you go post some of your great recipes for folks to share? Or... STFU and GTFO. Great Job tackbag. I love this recipe!

Looks sooo yummy. Would it be okay if i allowed my sauce to get thicker before adding the macaroni?
-
Looks yummy!
My mom makes a dish (she calls it Goulash) and she makes it with ground beef, tomato sauce, corn, and green beans, and we eat it with rice. Its cool seeing all the different kinds of goulash! :-)
-
Like they say when your in Rome you do as the Romans, but this statement does not apply here. We are here in the USA and this is how you make American Goulash. Graet job sir.
-
I swear sole heartedly on my cat.
-
@ramzing Only if you agree never to calling grilling barbecue.
-
Goulash is the national hungarian dish dating back centuries...I think we europeans always get chronic allergies regarding American versions of recipes becouse we are kinda culture obsessed ;) Call me a nitpicking cooking purist, but I believe when you have your own version of something, call it your own version of something.
-
@ramzing As far as I can tell this version of the dish goes back to at least the 1950s. Chances are the dish was adapted by Hungarian immigrants over time. This isn't just one guy changing the dish, it is something that has been around for a while.
Plus, German goulash is different from Hungarian goulash, so why can't American goulash be different?
-
hey man it looks delicious but but nothing that comes in a can in fresh or homemade :/ beside that it looks good
-
Hey people....goulash shmoulash! It looks good and I'm sure it's delicious. Everyone has their own take on recipes....Lighten up!

You DO NOT rinse off the macoroni, when the macoroni is done bowling, you shake it in the strainer but do not rinse it off with any water, because there is some starch on it which makes the tomato sauce slightly stick and thats what gives the macoroni that red look, if you rinse it off your gunna find yourself with alot of sauce and beef at the bottom of the bowl with orange noodles ontop.
My last name is Gulyas and that is not the real deal. The real Hungarian dish is so good but it is not ground beef and macaroni, but cubed pork and beef and spatzel lots of fried paprika no tomatoes onion and bell pepper. What this man made is some sort of kid friendly slop.Cheese? Are you serious?

Thanks for commenting but it is goulash (american) not Hungarian goulash.

@tackbag There is only one goulash. And that is the hungarian goulash. Not being mean or anything, but calling this "american goulash" is somewhat offensive to the real thing. Same as we in europe would take a signature American dish and change it completely so it doesn't have much of the original thing, and give it the same name. Just don't please. Call it goulash inspired or something.
