This is kinda old. In 2003 DNA-analyzis proved what allways was thought to be a new ape species wrong, it was just a large species of chimpanzee in eastern Congo that have grown to an impressive size (allmost as big as a gorilla!). Despite the news, they are very shy to humans. They are known as the Bondo Mystery Ape or Bili Ape.

This is a real new ape species found in the congoby a female researcher.They were first thought to be Gorilla-chimp hybrids because they acted like both. They are reported to eat less meat than chimps, but build nests and grow almost as large as gorillas. There are at least two in captivity that were thought to be large chimps, but DNA testing concludes they are more related to chimps and bonobos than to gorillas, but they are different enough to be classified as a distinct species.
