About the DVD
The award winning feature-length documentary, A Walk to Beautiful, tells the stories of five Ethiopian women who suffer from devastating childbirth injuries. Rejected by their husbands and ostracized by their communities as a result, they are forced to live out their lives in loneliness and shame. They make the difficult decision to take the long and arduous journey to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, searching for a cure, and a new life. These brave women embark on a journey to reclaim their lost dignity. The trials they endure -- and their struggles to rebuild their lives -- tell a universal story of hope, courage, and transformation. • Last night at the 30th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards show at the Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC, this amazing film won a well deserved Emmy in the Outstanding Informational Programming - Long Form category for its airing on NOVA, PBS' s premiere science show. Way to go M.O. and Amy and Alison and everyone else who had a hand in this compelling documentary.

  • It shows a horrible life situation of many Ethiopian women. What a life?

  • Since they could not be clean, they smell bad...people do not want to approach them at all. This makes them lonely and shameful. Read about fistula for more.

  • So what is there shame?

  • I watched this documentary on PBS, I couldn't stop the tears...pretty touching film.

  • I came back from Ethiopia last week, but I didn't know about fistula at all. I ordered the DVD right away and I saw it last night. It is a very good and powerful documentary film. Thank you for uploading this.
