Mount Pilatus (named after a legend regarding the burial of Pontius Pilate) is the monstrosity that crowns Lucerne's (Switzerland) skyline at 7000 feet. After two gondola rides up (the second of which feels much like a circus ride as the bottom seems to "drop out"), if you're not in the mood to take the 48% grade cog railway down, there's always paragliding.
