Examples of others include pressure, temperature, and the presence of catalysts, to name a few. In the case of ferrous sulfate, the oxidation of ferrous ions to ferric is reversible. A low pH provides an abundance of protons which shifts the equilibrium point in the direction favouring ferrous over ferric ions.
