¡Ay qué placer
No cumplir un deber!
¡Tener un libro que leer
Y dejarlo de hacer!
Leer es cosa pesada.
Y estudiar es nada.
El sol dora
Sin literatura.
El río fluye, bien o mal,
Sin edición original.
Y la brisa
Es tan naturalmente matinal
Que como tiene tiempo nunca va de prisa...
Los libros son papeles pintados con tinta.
Estudiar es una cosa en que se halla indistinta
La distinción entre nada y cosa ninguna.
¡Cuánto mejor, si hay bruma,
Que el rey Don Sebastián nos tenga
Espera que te espera, aunque no venga!
Grande es la poesía, y la bondad, y la danza...
Pero nada hay mejor en el mundo que la infancia,
Las flores, la música, la luz de la luna, o el sol, que sólo peca
Cuando en vez de crear las cosas, las seca.
Pero es mayor aún el peso
De Cristo que el de todo eso,
Y él nada sabía de finanzas
Ni consta que tuviese biblioteca...

Oh, what a pleasure
not to fulfill a duty!
To have a book
and not read it!
Reading is boring.
Studying is nothing.
The sun shines without literature.
Rivers run without original editions.
And the breeze, so natural to the morning, has plenty of time, and no rush...

Books are papers painted with ink.
Studying is something that can´t distinguish nihil from nothing.

The best is the mist.
It doesn't matter if Don Sebastián will ever come back.

Great is the poetry, goodness, and the dances.
But the best in this world are the children,
Flowers, Music, Moonlight, and the Sun, whose only flaw
is sometimes burning instead of making life bloom.

And more than anything else, Jesus Christ,
who didn't know anything about finances,
and never owned a library.
