One of the first videos we ever posted on the web. This is Justin's best lap of the day at a Sports Car Driving Association track event at Lime Rock, CT in March, 2002. After passing a Spec Racer Ford, he nails a killer lap in a mostly stock Miata, taking the Uphill at 80mph and touching 115mph down the front straightaway.
In general I agree. However, with the top up I maxed out at 115mph down the front straightaway, and my instructor friend with the top down maxed at 114 DRAFTING A VIPER, and it was like hitting a brick wall when he pulled out from the slipstream when he got a point-by. For top end speed, top-up is actually better.
Granted, that's the ONLY time it's better. :D

Thanks! Though I've been meticulous about keeping original footage around I've lost it for this clip. But if I remember right, all you could hear was wind noise, no vroom-vroom sounds.

One version with just the car sound would be amazing!
But nice lap bud!
