Nexus 2 is NOW ON KICKSTARTER! Please take a moment to pledge your money for the project if you like the video, or if you like space-based sci-fi games/TV shows/movies in general. The kickstarter page is here:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/m...

This is the tech demo for the proposed sequel to Mithis Entertainment's AWESOME space combat game, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. A few of the goodies you'll see here are planet surfaces so real you could touch them, giant spaceships, fighters doing trench runs straight from Star Wars, and ice cube shields(!).

A game like this would be like having the battles of Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica (especially its awesome-looking Season 4), Star Trek, and for good measure, Star Wars all on your computer, where YOU call the shots and every last explosion. Don't let such marvelous potential be consigned to the trash heap of gaming history!

Also, the original Nexus: The Jupiter Incident has been released on Steam for paid download! Show your love and make sure others who weren't able to get the game in a box know of this new way to experience one of the best space combat games in recent years. You can buy it here:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/6420/

NOTE: This video has annotations added to make it seem like an ingame cutscene (just with dialogue balloons instead of voice clips). To get the full effect, you should watch it at least once without the annotations, then turn on the annotations to expand the experience. For fun, see how many references to existing sci-fi series you can identify in the annotations!

You can download the original video file (but without the annotations) here:

This video features samples from the Linkin Park song "Session." Many thanks to Sargoth85 for uploading the original file.

Actually, a few are from Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5. You might want to check those series out.

No, only that this one funding attempt didn't work out. In the meantime spread the word about how nice the original Nexus is. More people buying digital copies of it will help to fund Nexus 2 indirectly.

It's not that space games are out of fans--several other kickstarter projects for space-based games met and exceeded their funding requirements. Sadly a concept this unique takes more time getting used to than many gamers want to spend.

Indeed it is. Rather odd that the "concept" didn't catch on better than it did. In terms of uniqueness, one might compare it with Giants: Citizen Kabuto (though that oddball does stand out on its own).

Oh well, very much like the original UFO: Defense or XCOM Apocalypse the game doesn't feel old when played on today's computers as it got so much right (story, voice acting to say the least). And if one peeks under the hood there's a lot fun to be had by tinkering with say the missions & rules
