Preempting negative comments: they're in crates inside from time to time because it's hot outside (Las Vegas); they do _not_ stay in there all day. He has OCD; no matter where he is (on the patio, in the kitchen, at the dog park, etc.) he goes back and forth over and over at any sort of opening. Maybe it's because he has Beyoncé in his head all the time.

The back and forth action is seen in situations where the animal is bored, maybe they do it as a release of nervous energy. My Max in spite of trying to get him to get used to the crate, refuses to go in there anymore so i envy you to have such compliant dogs.
