More than 32 years after his untimely death in a gun accident, friends, fans, bandmates and other musicians gathered at William H. Taft High School in Chicago, IL on May 27, 2010 to stage a concert in tribute to Terry Kath, former guitarist, singer and composer with the jazz-rock band Chicago.
Headliners included: Danny Seraphine, original drummer with Chicago; James William Guercio, Chicago's first producer and manager; and Kenny Cetera, brother of Chicago bassist and now solo artist Peter Cetera. They were joined by Chicago cover bands 25 or 6 to 4 and the 95th Street Band, as well as guitarist Tom Vienna and drummer Nick Morrone.
Kath's solo on the Chicago hit 25 or 6 to 4 is perhaps his best-known guitar work, while vocally he sang on the hits Make Me Smile, Color My World and Wishing You Were Here. However, his true talents came through best on several Chicago album cuts -- on guitar in songs such as Free Form Guitar, Poem 58, Liberation, Sing a Mean Tune, Kid, Oh, Thank You, Great Spirit and Uptown and on vocals in songs such as Introduction, Movin' In, Make Me Smile, It Better End Soon, An Hour in the Shower, Now That You've Gone, Dialogue, Alma Mater and Hope for Love.
In this clip, Danny Seraphine and James William Guercio offer some of their reflections on Kath.
its great to have Danny a founding member of the band Chicago Transit Authority do a tribute to another founding member Terry Kath, I dont believe the band Chicago ever did ANYTHING for Terry, i guess it didnt make money doing that .after all the record execs are all idiots that back the band Chicago, remember Danny was kicked from the band for not being good enough....really?

@tmg1968 You'll have to check out Brass Transit too. They are made up from some of the best musicians in Toronto. They pay close attention to detail and sound very close to the original recordings. They have some here on You Tube too.

I love Jimmy Guercio's story about Terry and the sax player. Terry was one of a kind, truly salt of the earth. I miss him to this day. Thanks for this post!

How I wish Terry could still be with us singing and playing. No one can ever take Terry's place. What a beautiful spirit he was.

yes, the PA system failed. It was at Taft High School, and the sound tech had to "make do" with what was there; needless to say, all that equipment on the stage overwhelmed them. it wasn't a matter of "saving a few bucks" - it was short-sighted planning on the part of the sound tech who assumed the high school would have adquate equipment. But, it didn't stop everyone from performing to the max.

Apparently Danny didn't have a rider with system requirements and whoever was in charge of hiring the sound company tried to save a few bucks. Unfortunately, it was at the expense of the performance and, worst of all, the audience members who each paid $10 for a seat at this event. But the professional response of Danny, James, Kenny and the musicians was to make the most of the adverse conditions and continue with the show.
