Abby Owens. I just learned of her. I like what I've heard. This song is the title track from her latest release, "Indiantown". Here's Abby in her own words...

"Well...like the song says, I really was born at home, in the trailer we lived in tucked back in my Dad's orange groves. Growing up in Indiantown, FL there wasn't much to do, but we listened to a lot of music. My mama listened to a lot of blues, country and rock and roll in our home. Stuff like Bonnie Raitt, Fleetwood Mac and Gram Parsons... those styles of music went well with our simple lifestyle I suppose. She would let me watch MTV or tapes that she recorded. She said I would watch them over and over again. It was Tom Petty I loved the most. I learned what I thought it meant to be a musician by his example.

"One day, when I was 12, we up and moved to Waycross, GA. It was there my mama took me to a pawnshop where I got my first guitar. It was a Sears Harmony electric, black with a white pick guard. A few months later, I found this acoustic guitar in my step grandfather's garage across the road. It was small and the binding was crumbling. The pick guard was completely peeled off. It was a '67 Gretsch student guitar. I loved its tone and that was the start of my love affair with acoustics. When I was seventeen I bought my first real guitar... a Martin DR acoustic, and then I REALLY started playing! I still use this guitar on stage and write most of my songs on it. There's something in the water down in Waycross, GA because everybody plays there. Hell, I was surrounded by the Gram Parsons mafia! Gram had spent some time in Waycross. So if you live there, you play Gram. By the way, I do have a Strat and a Tele so I can rock out when I get the chance!

"As I got older I learned about artists like Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and Patty Griffin. They spoke to me in a way that let me know it was OK to wear my heart on my sleeve and speak my mind. I studied these artists and learned from them, (and I got really good at imitating them) but hadn't quite found my own voice yet. It was during this time that I met Kevn Kinney from Drivin N Cryin, Jason Isbell from Drive By Truckers and Victor Stanley, owner of The Hummingbird in Macon, GA. They encouraged me to write and play like me, to find my own voice and my own style. Fortunately, I was open enough to listen to what they were saying. Not long thereafter, I found myself sharing the stage with the likes of Mic Harrison from Superdrag, Justin Townes Earle, Unknown Hinson, Charlie Louvin, Jason Isbell and Kevn Kinney. Most recently, Jason Isbell produced my record Indiantown and I recorded vocal tracks for his next release.

"What you see and hear now is who I am. All my songs come from real events and real people in my life. I am a storyteller with songs. My inspirations are real stories from my life -- the people, happenings, emotional responses and everyday occurrences that affect me. I'd be doing all this anyway, but the feeling that something I write might resonate in your life helps drive me to create. For me, music is a heartfelt connection; it's a personal conversation between you and me. It won't always be pretty but it will always be true. If you're in my life, you're in my music." ~Abby
