Miguel Brito worked as a butcher at Doña Mari's #2 at 3518 W. Lawrence Ave. in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago for 16 years. During that time, he was consistently paid below the minimum wage and was not paid for overtime.

After Miguel approached the Arise Chicago Workers Center, we contacted his former employer to recover his stolen wages. Our offer was only a fraction of what Miguel was actually owed, but the attorney for Doña Mari's #2 would not agree to it.

Arise and community members from the Centro Autonomo, Stand Up! Chicago, and others from around the city gathered in front of Doña Mari's #2 to demand that Miguel be paid for his work. The owner immediately locked the door, ending business for a short stretch of the day.
