Just use iCal's Calendar: Subscribe command. Subscribe to the calendar's URL.
Before I started using Thunderbird's Lightning calendar exclusively, I used this to subscribe to Google calendars and to the calendar-format task list served by my project manager (web2project).
Bart 12x suggested the same thing earlier, but you don't have to export or import anything, and the calendars do update automatically and regularly.
It's also unclear from your video how this is communicated to the iPhone.

Finished Part I successfully. What do I need to do for the Alarm window to pop-up at the beginning of Part II?

I hope Apple fixes this. This takes too much manual work, even with Automater. I've been doing it manually. I showed the calendar in Mobile Me (right click and it's one of the options) and bookmarked it. Then when I want to update it, i load the bookmark, click the download link and import it into iCal. Pain in the butt, but I think less confusing.

wait, so you have to update and add a new calendar every day?

.... question...
Subscriptions for Birthdays
when a new birthday date has been added in my contacts will your method automatically add it in my ical?
-
There is an easier way to do this. Open iCal. Select (click on) the subscription calendar.
Then go to file and export. Save it to your desktop or some easy place to locate it. Then import the Calendar. When it asks you where you want to put it, make a new calendar. The problem is this is now a normal calendar (I don't think it gets updated).

GOT IT WORKING! Thanks for this it will be very useful, The automator version works fine. Have 5 stars!
I uploaded this video two years aog when the functionality wasn't there. At this point, there is no reason to go through these steps as the iPhone does allow actual subscriptions now. This video is obsolete. I mean... you're certainly welcome to go through the steps but there's really no point.

This does not work for me. When I try to launch the scripted application Safari opens and downloads the ICS file..

Once the ics file is downloaded, it should automatically try to open the ics file with iCal. Your settings may be different than mine. You probably have a security measure setup to not automatically launch downloaded files... which is pretty smart to tell you the truth.

No, you don't need any additional application on your iPhone. Everything you need comes preloaded on your Mac and iPhone.
