Now I know why Da Lord had me doing drywall repair and house painting instead of pottery for a lot of my money over the years, so I would learn how to prepare a wall.

  • Never underestimate the power of the sponge.

This might sound stupid but why is it important for the inside to be asthetically pleasing?

The kiln really came out nice. When I first saw it compleated I thought to myself... I could live there!

Then I realized it's probably not hot enough, hehe.

Great work, I need to view a few I skipped so sorry for asking questions you might have already addressed.

  • The kiln needs to be as much a piece of Art as the pottery that comes from the fire. Design and function are unified, the chamber is shaped like the flame with vary few right angles. I think huge rectangular kilns held together by angle iron tend to be ugly, even though they might fire just fine.

I wouldn't live inside this but you can sit and burn one rather comfortably.

  • Maybe I misunderstood your ?. I'm washing the inside to remove any loose clay so it doesn't fuse into the brick after a number of firings or fall on the pots and cause boogers in the glaze. Sometimes blemishes can look good but it is not easy to pull off, it just has to happen.

  • 28.1°F in lower Michigan. Yay, it's Cold!!!

Thank you for sharing, Sponge Washing Kiln Chamber

  • Ya, and we still haven't really started winter yet and there is 2 feet of snow on the ground. Hope I got enough oil for until April.

  • Interesting. The kiln is really top notch. To be honest, I wasn't expecting it to come out so pro. It truely is art.

Thanks for answering my question about the excess mortar. I figured you cleaned it off on the inside for a reason but wasn't sure why.

Your channel is heading in an interesting direction and it will be fun to see when production time comes. I hope we get to see some of the finished products.
