For your information, there's many different definitions of the Middle East.
Afghanistan, while not part of the traditional 'Middle East', is still a part of the 'Great Middle East', but because it takes long to say 'Great Middle East' than just 'Middle East'', people generally refer to it as just ''Middle East'', sacrificing detail in favor for speed, given that a wide array of people in the west shares the idea that Great Middle East is Middle East :)
