The phone is fully unlocked, however it needs to be operated by a Sim Card.
I believe Verizon doesn't provide a Sim Card?

oh okay thanks....another question is does that open to a keyboard when you slide it up because on the prada website it shows that it does?

the QWERTY keypad will be shown after you press the icon while typing message.
