Frankie Valli's first commercial release was "My Mother's Eyes" (as Frankie Valley) in 1953. The following year, he, along with Tommy DeVito, formed the Variatones (with Hank Majewski, rhythm guitar, Frank Cattone, accordion, and Billy Thompson, drums), which between 1954 and 1956, performed and recorded under a variety of names before settling on the name The Four Lovers. The same year, the quartet released their first record, "You're the Apple of My Eye", which appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, peaking at #62.

  • Can you upload "My Mother's Eyes"?

  • @thetubkins - I'd love to but I don't have that one..

  • This is The Four Seasons version, which is track 6, on side one of their 'Sherry and 11 Others' LP, which is on the 'Festival' label here in Melbourne. I also have it on their 'More Golden Hits by The Four Seasons' LP on Vee Jay.

This is a much more polished version than that originally done by 'The Four Lovers'.

I especially enjoy The Four Seasons interpretation of the old Doo Wop songs that they did on their first 3 or 4 albums.

I am also Melbourne born and raised in East Preston.

  • @RayBushfox - small world - I was born and bred in Pascoe Vale

  • @7CNY Thanks - I've been looking through the music clips to put in some rarities but a lot of mine have already been posted by yourself - you obviously love the old stuff as much as I do - and we're a similar vintage ( and both Melbourne born? )
