From the album "At The Five Spot Vol. 2" . Recorded live at The Five Spot, New York, New York on July 16, 1961. Originally released on Prestige (7294).Eric Dolphy (flute, bass clarinet); Booker Little (trumpet); Mal Waldron (piano); Richard Davis (bass); Ed Blackwell (drums).
It was a hot June in New York in the summer of '61 and, unfortunately, there was a big rainstorm the day before this recording date. The resulting humidity threw the piano out of whack and it was not retuned before this date. At various points in the performance it's quite noticable.

{Part Two} After about 35 seconds of silence, the tune "Aggression" begins with an avant-jazz intro, leading into a hard-driving melody statement, on trpt & bass clarinet. Then Booker Little rips into an incredible lengthly, virtuosic and very wild solo, before Eric takes a turn on bass clarinet that is every bit as long, well-played AND free-form-sounding! They sure know how to tear apart a set of chords! At 8:22, Waldron jumps in with both feet on the piano, & takes us to the end of part 1.

{Part One} "At the Five Spot" is a pair of albums documenting one night, in 1961, from the end of Eric Dolphy's two-week gig at the Five Spot in New York. This was the only night that was recorded; the engineer (of course) was Rudy Van Gelder. Dolphy and trumpeter Booker Little were backed by pianist Mal Waldron, bassist Richard Davis, and drummer Ed Blackwell.
