The first Game Boy game with Donkey Kong in it, at least I think so anyway. Sort of a spiritual precursor (opposite of a spiritual successor?) to those Mario VS. Donkey Kong games, like March of the Minis. At least I think so anyway.
It was basically an expanded version of the original Doney Kong arcade game, I believe. "Donkey Kong '94" is less of an official name and more of a nickname, possibly to distunguish it from the other Donkey Kong games.

I really can't explain it too much greater without spoilers, though. ^_^; But I will be playing it at some point, so it'll be brought to light at the appropriate time. I won't forget.
