Physicians at Mercy Medical Center West enrolled their first patient in LEVANT 2, a global, multicenter, randomized clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of the Moxy™ Drug-Coated Angioplasty Balloon for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Malcolm Foster, MD, an interventional cardiologist, performed the procedure at Mercy West.

PAD affects approximately 8 million Ameri...cans, and is more common as the population becomes older. Peripheral artery disease happens when fatty deposits build up in arteries outside the heart, usually the arteries supplying fresh oxygen and blood to the arms, legs and feet. The most common symptom of PAD is a painful muscle cramping in the hips, thighs or calves when walking, climbing stairs or exercising.
