the us started using it in the late 80 and other countries were using it far before then.

America was VERY late in metrication it is too perfect of a system to ignore.

the us has had some good power from small engine like 4-5 litre 6 cyl engines can do just as good as a 5-7 litre v8. but we still like to have over 200hp as a minimum.

Simple, technology has caught up with us; has since the 80s. We can get decent power from small engines that don't need to be several litres big because the average driver is too stupid to driver it properly.

Oh, and a tonne = 1000kg; a ton = 2200lbs. It's called metrication; most of the world adopted it in the 60s.

1. Fuel is expensive ($2.50 a litre).

2. We actually go around corners sometimes.

3. We're secure in our sexuality which means we don't need five tonnes of 4x4 to compensate

4. Sometimes, it's nice to actually go more than 60 without getting single figure economy.
