This is my video on how to paint your board of choice. ENJOY!
And check out the sequels:

Materials:
Skate Deck, Sandpaper, Painters tape, Rustoleum spray paint and clear enamel, Dawn dish gel, Rags or paper towels.

My coats are white, then alternating red and silver stripes, then black over top.

Steps:

1. First, take the trucks and wheels off. Put tape around the edge of the board so that it protects the griptape from the paint and other substances. Then, you want to sand your deck. Do as much as you feel is needed, whether it be a little to take off the top of the previous coat or a lot to take it down to the bare wood.

2. Next, you wanna put down a base coat of the color you want on the very bottom layer. Let it dry THOROUGHLY. I chose to use white because it fit into my design. Some people put a coat of primer on first, but I don't think it's really necessary.

3. After that, you should decide on a basic design for your skateboard. Don't freak out about it though, a generic plan followed by winging it generally produces a great design. Pick out the colors of spray paint you need and keep them close at hand.

4. Now it's time to start the design. Depending on your plan, this part will vary. On this deck, I chose to do a "splatter" pattern I found the technique for on another video. Put down various colors and lines or shapes for the base coat. Let this dry THOROUGHLY also.

5. Now get some dish gel, right from your kitchen. Now this is the fun part. Splatter gel on the deck in random designs or maybe even symbols, letters, or words. The trick is neither putting too much or too little on the board. Whatever you don't cover with dish gel will be painted over. Right after you have finished with this, spray a couple layers of paint on top. I chose black for this part. Let this dry for a couple hours.

6. When you think the paint between the gel lines is dry, start wiping it off. This part is very messy and you will need a lot of rags. One thing to remember: don't be afraid to put some elbow grease into it. Some of the paint will seep through the gel a little bit, so you need to rub a little bit harder to get it off. Keep rubbing until all the gel and unwanted paint is off the board. After this layer has dried at least overnight, wash the board off to remove any remaining soap. Then, dry the board.

7. Shwoo. Almost done. Next, you need to get some clear enamel protective coat. After the previous coats have dried completely, you can start putting this on. I would recommend a bunch of light, quick coats spaced a few minutes apart. How many depends on how long you want the graphic to last and how much you want it to stand up to. Remember to spray this in a well-ventilated area, as it will turn you into Paris Hilton pretty damn quick (yeah, dumb blonde joke.) After you are satisfied with the protective coat, let it dry at least overnight.

8. Now, you can put the trucks back on. You have successfully painted your deck!

If you fail the first time, don't be discouraged. The first time I tried to paint this board, I failed too.

  • I created a page for skateboard painting on Facebook (Official Skateboard Painting). I think of you as one of my main influences in painting boards in the first place and would appreciate it if you could help me advertise it and get people to participate in uploading pictures and posts about the art. I think it's a great way to share ideas with other and upcoming skateboard art enthusiasts.

  • @sumblinkfan Thanks man! Sure thing, I just found and liked it on Facebook. And if you want to add my YouTube channel to the website area, (if you can), that would be A-okay! :)
