This 29 mile round trip, paved trail begins five miles out of downtown Jacksonville and heads west to the town of Baldwin. Like other Rails-To-Trails conversions this trail is great for all sorts of outdoor activities, including horseback riding. The shade provided by the dense canopy formed by the trees occurs for much of the trail. It provides it's users with a cool escape from the Florida heat while getting in a workout that is away from the hustle & bustle. I have done this ride about 10 times now, but I have not done the back-to-back-back and then some, to squeeze out a century yet... But it is on my "Must Do" list.

  • The Pinellas Trail is only questionable in the hood in St Pete. Word to the wise would be for those fearing anything, not to go south of B&G Foodtown (REFUEL HERE). The issues have been focused around the crossing (a bridge) from Gibbs High School north to bridge over Central/Pasadena. Or you could ride with group. The club I belong to do two Pinellas Trail head to toe rides (and back) twice a year. Join the club, learn to ride in a group, have fun, make friends & ride the trail with us!

  • The parking lot on the Jacksonville side of the trail has been the place of some break-ins. My car is boring, no tint to the wndows, no fancy paint, and I do not leave ANYTHING within view (car chargers, coins, tissue box, pens... I leave the console open and it is empty, seat back pockets are void of maps, receipts, trash.. My radio is an aux in-less, AM/FM/Cassette deck that is stock with the car and will render itself inoperable if stolen...

  • There have been some issues at the Jacksonville side, but the rest of the treail seems great. I have ridden in about 6-7 times and many times into the darkness of early night/ late evening... I have not seen any thing questionable yet, safety-wise

  • What is the safety factor of this trail? The Legacy Trail is completely safe while the Pinellas Trail is very dangerous in many sections.

  • haha. I am proud to anounce I have been caught by the train

  • There is a nice restroom now at about 5.5 miles from the west end. Drinking fountains there also - fun to take the little trail on the left side of the facilities that leads to the Camp Milton Historic Park. Only a couple hundred yards, but scenic and winding, a quick little excursion from the main trail.

  • baldwin owns

  • Jacksonville is very unique, the clash culture, way of driving and minimal Share the Road signs makes the city very very different from anything NORMAL.
