"Plastic food" born in 2010 and this is the last of a series of installations that begins in 2000, all characterized from the using of plastic materials. Last time the artist simply replaced hay bales on a wheat filed with plastic waste presses. Potsy is convinced that people live an unpaid love with the same plastic that has become marvelous and irreplaceable. This artwork was nothing more than an invitation to make a walk trough a landscape that is futuristic and present at the same time. We think that it's far away by our marvelous Umbrian hills, but it's not real so distant. This artwork come from a very easy consideration, we must reduce our production of rubbish. We cant' wait unaware anymore, the future is in front of our eyes and we aren't be able to see it because our lives are distracted from many useless things. The big problem is that in future, our children will not able to enjoy a landscape and a style of life that are so normal for us but not so obvious in future. We can walk quietly walk in a filed smelling the perfume of the fresh green, we can feel the delightful fragrance of the hay bales, so we can recover our contact with the nature everyday. This is the inheritance that we must live to the future generations.
"Plastic Food" represents what we will live, what we expect and that unfortunately is past and present at the same time in other regions.
"Plastic Food" is an invitation to producers and consumers to develop an eco-conscious attitude regarding the production of waste, There are already eco-friendly packaging that could substantially reduce the use of plastic, with a consequent reduction in the use of a valuable resource such as oil.
This time Potsy prefers the old town centre of Marsciano to create his Land Art installation, he passed from the field to the center of the city. there is a strong contrast between the massive walls of historic buildings and the plastic waste presses, throw us in a possible unthinkable future that is light years away from the peaceful present, and it is exactly this contrast of different materials that Potsy wants to highlight.
Marsciano is one of the most virtuous Municipality in the recycling area. We need to reward the citizens and the forward looking administration for the first-rate work they made in order to avoid a future as proposed by "Plastic Food Surround Us". At the same time in other regions people are experiencing a daily life not too different from what we find today in the historic center of Marsciano. To Open the door and to find a world of waste scares even the most daring people.
The presses made of wastes don't smell good, but remind us the fragrance of the hay, that it is just a remote memory. This is a severe warning caused by our relation with plastic.
The old center of Marsciano offers us a serious reflection, we must change attitudes and achieve the knowledge that will make the difference, in the case of the citizens of Marsciano our change will make the "differentiated". Following their example, all of us could drastically reduce our daily production of waste.
Plastic Food is not a painting that you can hang in your living room, and even if we are talking about art, not even the so-called museums for contemporary art make it possible to exhibit an art work like this. It is useless to insist, the truth is that we are afraid of the waste we produce, to the point to say that we have not produced them. An art work as "Plastic Food" let us thinking about what we are and what we will be, Plastic Food is the exact projection of all that we don't want to be.Unfortunately Italy too often hit the foreign headlines for waste matter , rather than for its historic and cultural characteristic. Plastic Food fight even against the wild dismemberment of our places, saying that if one side it is a distracted Italy, to the other side you can find also an Italy that defends its beauty everyday, the same one that makes us proud to be Italian. Our flag is the fruit of the sacrifice and of the ancient history of our ancestors, it is made of a fabric that is unique in the world, we must avoid at all costs that our flag is "made in who knows where" colored plastic, we need to revive our national sentiment, the same that make us proud. Plastic Food is not only art, it is a model of communication, it is a work for the community, it constantly fed on with the contaminations of those artists who wanted to embrace it, and Potsy makes a plea to all new artist who wants adopt plastic food in them own way.
