The stabbing was probably just so that he wasn't able to chase them. But if wanted for that other murder, he would have known who they were.
Bonus:
Allgood2000, several of the Rescue 911 episodes are featured in my own novel, which alters the plot of this one so that Royce is not stabbed and he files a report with the police. (not spam, but just what I've been doing personally in my personal novel to many Rescue 911 episodes).

If you Shoot the Windows, It could cause Damage to the Store.

If you shoot the windows it'll probably just make bullet holes in them rather than taking out all the glass.
