Rodney Kinlaw (5'9", 215 lbs) is a Canadian football running back who is currently a free agent. He was signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2008 but then later released. Kinlaw has also been a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in early 2009 but was released prior to the start of the season due to the teams firing and hiring of a new coaching staff. He played college football at Penn State.
Although originally a guaranteed starter at PSU, Kinlaw suffered a torn ACL during a practice before the start of the season causing him to spend most of his career at Penn State on the depth chart behind Tony Hunt and Austin Scott while nursing the serious ACL injury. He changed his jersey number from the #8 to #20 his senior year in honor of his inspiration, Barry Sanders. He did not see significant playing time until the fifth week of his senior season in 2007. Kinlaw's career-best performance came vs. Temple that year when he rushed for 168-yards on 27 carries, the most accumulated since previous Penn State running back Larry Johnson who had 271 yards rushing in a single game. With solid performances in the second half of the 2007 season, Kinlaw became the 11th running back in Penn State history to reach 1,000 yards in a season ending with 1,329 yards rushing and 123 yards receiving. It was the 17th time in Penn State's history the feat had been accomplished, with Kinlaw becoming the 11th different player to pull over a thousand yards in a single season.
Kinlaws compelling 143-yard performance in the 2007 Alamo Bowl earned him recognition as the game's offensive MVP.
