"I carry a big legacy when I run. I feel that the heroes of the greek independence war of 1821 and of ancient greece are with me. They are inspiring me, encouraging me. This is something other runners probably don't have. If I wasn't greek I wouldn't have achieved all these things in my career. My records can be accounted to a big extend to Greece and its history. I feel just like our ancestors, our heroes are living with me, inside me.
The greek flag is a uplifting stimulus for me. When I am at the brink of a record, if I grab the flag, I can run a kilometer in 4' instead of 5 or 6. I wave the flag, sing epic songs and fly..."
