Demon's Souls - Defeating Black Phantom Garl Vinland

An easy fight if you can avoid getting hit (which I didn't).

The weapon I used was the Penetrating Sword found in 1-3. I heard that many people defeated him with ease because they have weapons that are +5 and up... this is me using a weapon without any upgrades and still defeating him pretty easily. This weapon is very long which helped me stay as far away from him as possible and the armor and shield I am using is the one you get from defeating Garl Vinland.

Garl Vinland normally appears in 5-3 in Body Form protecting Maiden Astraea. If you kill Maiden Astraea before killing him, then you won't have to defeat him. Load the game and Garl Vinland will suicide and leave a burning flame. Collect his dropped items from the flame before returing to the Nexus or they will be gone.

When defeated he will drop the following:
-Dark Silver Shield (Wt. 5.0)
-Dark Silver Helmet (Wt. 5.4)
-Dark Silver Armor (Wt. 13.5)
-Dark Silver Gauntlets (Wt. 8.1)
-Dark Silver Leggings (Wt. 8.1)

He will appear in 5-3 (again) but this time in Black Phantom Form if your World Tendency is Pure White.

This time he will drop the following when killed:
-Brand (Wt. 36)
-Crest of Vinland (Give this crest to Selen Vinland in 5-2 to get a Ring of Devout Prayer).

Demon's souls looks soooo sick , wish I had a ps3 .. It does look like a beta version of dark souls though , everything in it is near identical to dark souls.

@ErrorrPerfect The DBS stats of 280/B when fully leveled with colorless demon souls, as the bramd as a base damage of 210/B no matter how many times you upgraded it cause bramds strength will never increase if you upgrade it. So clearly you was doing something wrong.. and the poison strategy only works on noobs anyway. My point is the bramd that you love so much is easy out classed by a level 2 DBS. And sense the Northern Regalia so great use it... it way better than the useless bramd anyway.

@CrimsonViruz I had a Knight Strength build and it was doing shit compared to the bramd! Invading black phantoms try to use some dumb ass Poision strategy to slowly kill me and it never works thats why i roll around with it. I can strife with it and its seems faster than the DBS to me.

Theres way better weapons out there to use than that thing for strength builds anyway. like.... The Northern Regalia...

@CrimsonViruz Al the weapons are easy to get just go get them.

People actually wait for Ostrava to drop the key when one should just lead him to enemies so they can kill him for you. The sword is easy to get but its the best to use. The DBS is also easy to get just use friends to keep your tendency white. I thought the bramd WAS the heavies in the game though. But i use it in every black phantom battle and never lost. im a lvl 203 and its better than my upgraded DBS Ripoff

@ErrorrPerfect oh and the Northern Regalia is easy to get.. you get all the requirements in one playthrougth.. you will have to upgrade it to Northern Regalia on the second playthrougth however. The brand is the second heaviest item in the game and also one of the worst.. it's not worth using (unless in the swamp) in the 3 or 4 playthrougths cause other players will out damage it by then.

@ErrorrPerfect I said the DBS is the best for strength builds... it better than brand because when you upgrade brand you only upgrade the poison and plague resistance as compared DBS which gets stronger fire resistance and strength with each level up. In addition, the DBS has an A for as compares to the brands B for stats and can be cursed or enchanted with light weapon for maximum damage. Your Brand can not be enchanted and upgrading it is almost useless so it will always get out damaged.

The Dragon bone smasher some what sucks its just heavy and slow like the Bramd. I can fully use the Bramd and its the second best. i can mash out up to 700 damage with it and it has poison resistance. Plus it looks dam epic with Vinlands armor. The Northern Regalia is actually the best sword in the game its the hardest to get too one can achieve up to 2000 damage with that the DBS is just a knock off of the Dragon slayer from Berserk but not as epic
