@Hugs4Michael both this version and the version written by Darke were composed at around the same time, but I think this version stuck as the norm because it's more simple. But I think the setting of the words by Darke is more beautiful

How nice to hear the original version! The one I learnt as a child over 50 yrs ago! (Did someone come along and decide to re-write the old hymns and set them to different music?? I wish they hadn't, they were just fine as they were).
