VFX energy blast / building destruction + Breakdown

I'm currently taking the VFX program at Vanarts (www.vanarts.com). For our 2nd term assignment we were to destroy a building in a live action scene. This involved matchmoving, 3d modelling/texturing/lighting, dynamic simulations, particles, and compositing.

I learned a lot from doing this assignment, and am definitely going to start incorporating this sort of thing into Hybrid videos. Stay tuned!

Software used:
Autodesk Maya 2012 (modelling, texturing, lighting, particles, fluids, smoke)
Foundry Nuke (match moving, camera tracking, compositing)
Adobe After Effects CS5 (twitch plugin)

P.S. No disrespect intended to the Holy Rosary Cathedral lol! I just liked the way the building looked and wanted something fun to model.

No way! I just completed that course, now I recognise you! Not bad stuff, but bet Bill was harsh on you regardless though, right? Needs a little tracking work fix but for everything you tried to do in the short time I know you had - not bad! Better than mine anyway! But incidentally - I also did the same energy blast idea! I created an energy blast and then blew out the wall of my room :P.

So how'd you get into tricking? And can you help a fellow Vanarts VFXer out on how to get started?? :)

Hey thanks for the feedback! Yeah it's a tough course for sure and Bill is always very critical, but I think that's a really good thing. it pushes all of us to really go the extra mile.

@hybridmovement Hey, what exactly is the DISPLACEMENT? How do we do it? Any idea about doing it in after effects?

@hybridmovement Yeah, Bill really pushes you. He's not a scary guy per se, but you don't want to disappoint him and it makes you work twice as hard. It's DEFINITELY worth it in the end though!

What area of VFX are you thinking you'll go into?

And I'll try and get along to one of those classes, but they're all miles away from my work/home so I might need to wait until work calms down a bit (it's kinda crazy with long hours & weekend work right now).
