For a printable copy of instructions on how to make a liner for Ottawa Green Bin, go to http://www.greenbinottawa.ca/Tools/StudentsKids.aspx

We've asked one of Ottawa's younger residents to demonstrate how simple it is to make a newspaper liner for the new kitchen container that comes with Ottawa's green bin. It's an easy and inexpensive way to line your container! Check it out and remember collection starts in January. Visit our microsite for more information: http://www.greenbinottawa.ca

  • Guess I'll have to get a subscription for the Citizen. I can always use what paper is left over and put in my black bin that I hardly fill now anyway.

  • Oh I just got that kitchen container delivered to my enighborhood along with the green bin, and let me tell ya, I was ready to start screaming at the price of all those stupid bags we now HAVE to purchase, however, thanks to this cute little girl I shall be saving money and not feel so completely ripped off !! What the heck were they thinking with those bags anyways? Hello?!!

  • Thank you for the excellent and informative video! Just what I needed!

  • It's even easier if you get a Kitchen Cone, because you just drop a newspaper section in it and flip it open. The liner fits perfectly. Even better, your food dries out and doesn't smell.

  • 42 people tried it and succeed but 3 people tried it and failed ..

  • sooo cute!

  • Well! I just learned l'm not! Smarter than a six year old or nearly as cute. Thanks for teaching this old dog new tricks lol

  • A newspaper filled with garbage, being used for garbage. Works for me.

  • Many municipal programs allow the use of bio-plastic (corn-starch based) bags... but what most people don't realize about those bags is that they produce useless compost and, even though they may be cheaper on the shelf, they cost an arm and a leg to process, and guess who pays for that. . . YOU DO.

The fact that Ottawa is paper only is a HUGE step forward from what most areas are doing.

  • Ohhhh! I learned how to make this ages ago, except it was a drinking cup in the book I learned from. o.o

Love the stop animation at the end.

  • man fuck green bins

  • hahaha cuteee~ (:
