If you get caught stealing clips, PLEASE don't say that a "friend gave them to you." It's an old excuse, and even if it happens to be true (which happens VERY rarely, I suspect) no one will believe you.

Even if you don't understand why there is such a stigma against clip theft, the fact is that it exists, and it isn't going to go away.

If you get caught stealing clips, just apologize nicely, pull down any videos with stolen clips, don't feel bad, and learn how to make your own clips. No one will remember that you stole clips for very long if you simply STOP DOING IT.

  • Of course, I find this video after commenting in your other one and on the vid board 'my friends loan me clips...' and see here that that's the line clip-thefters use to defend themselves. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the irony. Especially since I hate clip theft!

  • No worries, Felicity! LOL. If you credit your friends (I have credited angela and AnonC19 in past videos, as they are my sources) then you're fine. And even if you don't credit friends (some don't care) it doesn't matter if you know that you didn't steal them. Who is going to accuse you of clip theft based on nothing? I mean, if you didn't steal them, then there's nothing to worry about.

  • I know exactley what you mean peeople were stealing my videos and it was awful but about the aspect ratio, some people can't help it as they only have basic programs

  • The clip theft thing is aggravating! But the aspect ratio thing—yes, it's almost always avoidable. (More information about this in the links I give.) For Windows Movie Maker, it's in Tools >> Options >> and choose the Advanced tab. Select 16:9. Probably 90% of the Aspect Ratio difficulties are due to people not doing this simple thing. Other problems come from not making their own clips. Almost all of the time, aspect ratio problems are due to people not knowing how to fix them.

  • Pardon my French, but only idiots fuck up aspect ratio!

  • I just came upon this after finding out that an ENTIRE video made about 2 years ago has been plagiarized this way. All that thief did was cut off my credits, use a different song and adding a minute of more stolen clips at the end. I'm heartbroken. :(

  • WOW, elvira, this is such a smart video AND i knew you would bring up Aspect Ratio - LOL - bc you are the diva queen on that!! good luck with that "clip theif"!

  • I'd just like to say thanks a lot for posting this video as a response to my stolen one. This person is really pathetic. Not only stealing whole videos (mine's not the only one), she keeps on deleting the comments and blocking the users and respondin in a rather rude way. It's a shame that are such people outside who think that it's fine to steal videos and promote them as their own. Shame on her and all the other thieves around here and on other sites.

  • Big thank you E for this excellent information, and I totally agree with "desertann" comment.

  • It's about time!
