  • I don't think the Luton Girls Choir could sing a bad note if they tried to. Everything they sang is utterly marvellous and beautiful. Thank you for this lovely video.

  • I think this is also rather lovely, I do so enjoy a touch of nostalgia even though I only heard of this talented choir from my parents thanks to runwa I can now hear for myself, ta muchly!

  • this is such a beautiful song, makes cry as my husband gone many years used to sing it to me, he had such a beautiful voice, ah such wonderful memories

  • Words cannot do justice to this beautiful song, and indeed to the Luton Girls Choir

  • @saltburner2 Mmmm, the music I know doesn't fit the words. Perhaps I was thinking of something else

    Also from Wikipedia:

"The lyrics of the signature tune were as follows:

It's Monday night at eight o'clock,

Oh, can't you hear the chimes

They're telling you to take an easy chair

    To settle by the fireside

    Look at your Radio Times

For Monday night at eight is on the air."

  • @saltburner2 Thank you. I shall hunt the music down. I remember most of it, but a reminder wouldn't go astray.

This is from the Wiki article on Ronnie Waldmann:

"...the famous signature tune "It's Monday Night at Eight O'clock"

  • @saltburner2 I'll have to struggle on the keyboard.I still remember it but not the title and haven't heard for over 50 years. I'll see what I can do.

  • @charade97

    remind me of it.

  • @saltburner2 Do you still remember Ronnie Waldman's signature tune?

  • It was Ronnie Waldman who, having heard the girls, wanted to engage them for the Richard Tauber Programme which he produced. Richard was adamant: 'No amateurs!'. But Waldman arranged for the girls to be at the Maida Vale studios early, and as Tauber arrived they were singing 'O lovely night'. Tauber was transfixed, and as they finished, tears were steaming down his cheeks.

From then on, they were devoted to each other.
