A variety of old images with cyclists in Amsterdam from circa 1900 to circa 1930.
Times when a cyclist had to share the roads with street cars and horse drawn carriages rather than with cars. Interesting to see relatively more trucks than privately owned cars in the streets of Amsterdam in the first 30 years of the 20th century. Traffic was very different. There is also no separate protected bicycle infrastructure to be seen yet. (Which was already normal outside the cities in those days in the Netherlands, but not in the cities.)

These images with people on bicycles are short excerpts from a high number of other YouTube videos.

  • When Dutch cyclists circulating freely on the road

  • Lovely collection, Mark! I particularly like the couples, arm in arm, cycling with each other. How very civilised.

  • Wow, that is awesome!
