Paul may have said in the service he would rather not speak in tongues...but he also thanked God he spoke in tongues "more than you all" and told us not to forbid to speak in tongues.

20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
This is from Jude.
It's to build ourselves up in the faith.

@Infidelrf speaking in tongues cannot be interpreted b ya"linguist". unless that person is also a person who is prophesying and interpreting the one speaking in tongues. Obviously in your opinion they are utterances and its OK if that's your opinion. We can argue about this till we are called up to heaven or until the last days. But in my opinion it specifically says these things in the bible. Before I prayed and spoke in tongues I thought it was crazy too! Now when I pray I am renewed.
