As requested, my boyfriend John interviews me about my lap band/weight loss progress and milestones. Then I turn the camera on him and ask him what it's like to date someone who has a lap band. There is a lot of sarcastic unrelated banter that ensues, but if you filter through the b*llsh*t there's some valuable information for pre-ops concerned for the effect surgery will have on their relationship. For the record, John and I started dating a couple weeks after I had my sugery (july 10th 2007), the relationship I was in during my pre-op planning ended about a week before my surgery. Rumor has it that wls is the catalyst for so much personal growth and change, a lot of people's romantic relationships don't make it through, but I believe every case is unique. And communication is your greatest tool to keep things together!

  • You are an inspiration and a source of hope for me with my WLS. I showed this video to my partner last night and I am sure that it will help him seeing how things are from a guys perspective. I'm pencilled in for my lapband on July1st which I am scared about. How did you cope with the change the few days after you had your op? Were the feelings what you had anticipated? I wish I could fast forward through that difficult stage and be as successful as you are nowGrats on your continued weight loss

  • I'm sure you'll do great! People build it up in their head to be something way scarier and more extreme than it is. The band works for you! You get to control how tight or loose it is, so it should never be an overwhelming/too fast or too slow experience. That's what's so great. It eases into your life and you loose your weight slowly and steadily!

  • Good . But I lost over 30 lb in one month using weight loss plan from LSWEIGHT(.)INFO

    lol ur dudeneedaeaseonup!!!

  • Ashley & Jonh, continued from below..I have a question. My problem is this, I can't eat very much during the day, I do ok at dinner, sometimes I throw, depending on what we have, but then later in the night I can EAT...YUK. Do you find this true for you. Back on that dating thing. My girlfriend knows the "look" when I am at the unconfortable spot or fixing to lose it. Great date when that happens...LOL Keep up the great vidoes, can't wait for the next one. Have a great weekend, Tony

  • Hey Ashley & John, love the videos, I just found them and I am trying to get caught up. I had my LapBand done on Aug 17th, 2007. I did so great for awhile, but then I went to long without my first fill. The good news is, I did go get my fill on March 6th, 2008 and I am fixing to schedule my 2nd one. I have lost a total of 51lbs. Would have been more if I had gotten my fill sooner. It is great to listen to you guys talk about dating. I have been dating since just after my surgery, Tony

  • I'm trying to get the book thing together but it is hard while I'm in school, working and in a relationship. Seems like these three things already have dibs on all my time. But I will try and make it happen when I can! Thanks for asking! :) Good luck to you!

  • I show it in this video. It's right under y port scar. That's the biggest scar when I lift up my shirt! I don't see mine sticking out but I can feel it. It's just a tiny bump on my torso.

  • The book has good down to earth advice for preop and post op patients. Anyway, thanks for reading all of this. I really do appreciate the videos that you are making, you are truly making a positive contribution to many peoples lives worldwide (I'm from Australia), and saving peoples lives from an early death, I really have the upmost respect for you Ashley. I'm looking forward to your next video post. Cass

  • Would it be possible at all for you to show where your port is in your next video? One of the questions I asked the nurse at my last appointment was if the port is visable on your stomach after losing weight, she said that it can show up with some patients, I have a similar body shape to you so it would really put my mind at ease. Have you put any more thought into publishing a book on lapbanding? I found a really good book - "the Lap band Solution" by Paul O'Brien which I have been reading....

  • Thank you for your advice, It is comforting to know that it isn't the end of the world when I get it done, I almost laughed when you said in the video that you only have x days to eat until the surgery, I am saying the exact same thing here. :) The band is a miracle! I can't believe that I will have control over my appetite, I'm really looking forward to getting the surgery done. I had one other question, I'll post it in another comment since I'm running out of space here. Cheers, Cass

  • The change right after you have your op is just healing from your wounds basically. i didn't feel much different at all because they insert the band with minimal to no fill in it so you don't feel restriction, or you barely feel a difference. you'll, however, be swollen so you won't be very hungry and that is a great feeling cause you're like FINALLY! and you think THE BAND IS A MIRACLE! but it's just the swelling, you won't get the advantage of your band until you reach a proper fill :)
