Edmonton Transit System 1977 GM New Look #728

Edmonton Transit System (ETS) 1977 GM T6H-5307N New Look #728 working Route 130 Northgate. Video is recorded between Groat Road and Kingsway Transit Center. This bus is still active as of June 2008 and was one of nine surviving New Look buses in the old livery. It survived mass retirement that took place in 2007/2008 with the arrival of 231 New Flyer D40LFR buses. Currently about 40 GM New Looks are part of the active ETS fleet. All remaining units are powered by Detroit Diesel 6V71N engines and Allison V730 3 speed transmissions.

I remember taking those buses

here in the United States in New York, Boston, and other cities and they were great buses. I remember those as a kid. I am surprised they were still in use in Canada. I am glad Canada preserved these fine quality buses!

The one in this video has been taken out of service, along with the rest of the fleet of Edmonton's. The last 15 or so buses made it till November 2009.

However Calgary still operates about 110 of these buses, Toronto 50. A few other smaller Canadian systems have small handfulls of them in operation.

@burbank - Toronto is down to about 14 of the Fishbowls now. Calgary has a bit less than 40 remaining in active service now.

Great video! The bus was in very good shape for its age! It's great that Edmonton doesn't throw out buses at age 12-15 like agencies in the US do.

I kind of miss the ol' buses. The seats were ugly, but comfortable. I hated the narrow exit doors, though.
