Lord Lovel and Lady Nancy Bell - traditional/arrangement by Dave Burland (cover)

Child Ballads N° 75. I've only ever heard this song sung by Dave Burland on A Dalesmans Litany. There are countless versions and variations of this song on both side of the Atlantic.

This is an attempt at covering Dave Burland's arrangement. In my opinion, he has one the best voices of any of the folk singers of the British Isle. The guitar is tuned to DADGBD or Double Dropped D.

The first reference I ever saw for this ballard was in the 1847 diary of Edwin Bryant. His wagon train had just went through a horrid thunder storm and I quote: "....one of our party behind me struck up in a sonorous voice the serio-comic elegy of 'Lord Lovell and Lady Nancy' . Shouts of merry laughter succeeded the rehearsal of each stanza...."
