Believe it or not, this song "To Be Lonely" from the group "Country Comfort" never even made the cut for their Greatest Hits collection. Originally from Waimanalo, Hawaii they were together for several years and had various band members thru the span of two albums. The first of which was "We Are The Children" and it did achieve moderate success. But by 1975, the group had disbanded and a few years later original members singer/guitarist Billy Kaui and lead guitarist Chuck Lee were dead from drug-related causes.

This song "To Be Lonely" was the only contribution from bass player Randy Lorenzo on the bands debut album. His deep smooth voice instantly pulls at anyone who ever experienced heartbreak and brings them right to the point of where he's at: "I woke up cryin' in the morning. Her letter said there's no sense in calling..." - that's classic stuff. Why this song never made it on to mainstream radio is a complete mystery.

This 3rd wave of Hawaiian sound came from "locals" of the baby boomer generation who sing in English rather than Hawaiian, and their inspiration comes from folk-rock. Along came Cecilio & Kapono and Hawaii Calls as the vanguard of this third wave of Hawaiian music.

  • I always thought this was a great song. Shows just how good Country Comfort was.

Anybody have the chords for this?

  • This is Randy Lorenzo singing when he was with Country Comfort dring the time of their first album. he left togo play bass with C&K and was replaced by Steve Wofford.

  • Man, Country Comfort back then was just a unique group. Indeed this was a gem and will always be a classic.

  • @PrettyEyesLiteUpGirl

Randy's my dad. I'm 100% positive that's his voice. Yup...that's my dad singing about a girl that dumped him before he met my mom! I love it.

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!

  • This song rips my guts out - and has for over 30 years now! The contrasts are amazing: flowers bloomed all day...children playing outside the wall...but inside he's a sea of pain. Gabby, Country Comfort - there's no better music made anywhere by anybody.
