This is a really early clip of The Corries (Roy Williamson and Ronnie Browne) playing 'The Flower Of Scotland'. If anyone has an older clip i'd love to see it.

Sorry about quality but its not bad for 1968

  • @gaconnochie This is the perfect song to be Scotlands national anthem and should not be changed. Not because it's a fuck you England song, I don't view it that way at all. I view it as a tribute to those who did fight and die for Scotland, It's irrelevant who the enemy was. Yes we no longer go to war for independence and try to gain it politically (well some do). But I don't see it as backward looking in paying respect and homage and remembering our ancestors who fought and died for Scotland

  • @NOVATICANWARS Huh? When was I praising kings or Robert De Bruce? This song refers to the Scottish wars of independence. Which was not just Bruce at Bannockburn, but also William Wallace, and he fought for no king. he was a supporter of John Balliol and knowing he could not return to the throne, Wallace fought to prevent Edward from gaining control or putting a puppet on the throne. But I agree, royalty is fucked up and there is no need for it anymore, it should be done away with.

  • Remaster? This is their original, the way its meant to be sung!

  • They really should remaster this.

  • @ClanScottishMetal as I am sure you know, the past shapes the future. Who knows what kind of Britain we wouId have now if those battIes had not taken pIace. Pehaps we wouId be a modern day middIe east country, suppresed for centuries and fighting for identity. I think those days made Britain the "Great" it is now and it is onIy right to remeber.

  • Of course, I am older than most of you, so I shall just point out that neither Scotland, England, Wales nor Northern Ireland have a national anthem. However, The United Kingdom does: "God Save the Queen".

But, for my money, "Scotland the Brave" is, and shall remain the 'Unofficial Anthem' of

Scotland. (As I said earlier, I am a wee bit older than most).

Just because a tune was popularized by drunkin' yahoos at a Rugby match does not

an anthem make. Love The Corries and this tune, mind.

  • im liverpool scottish it stirs me

  • @ClanScottishMetal i totaly agere with you mu mum was a scottish lady and never forgot her home and longed to return there but finances and a family prevented it i regret that she never got home im proud that she loved her country and i miss her

  • fuck yes, fuck yes

  • Awesome Tune

  • @ClanScottishMetal Actually Wallace fought in the name of the exiled King John so it is not quite correct to say he fought for no king. The song does specifically relate to Edward II'd defeat by Bruce at Bannockburn though of course yes it invokes all the struggle and of course more specifically the modern idea of nationalism.

  • What is the string instrument? Is it a Zitar?
