  • Hi Nancy, My husband and I are makine bread baskets for our son's wedding using your videos. Just one question. We are starting the rim on several baskets and wonder why you leave such a long overlap of the flat oval rim materials. Can I make it a smaller overlap or try to butt them up together instead. It's so thick!

  • I often use 3/8" flat/oval so it is NOT too thick when it is overlapped. Once you get to 1/2" flat/oval or 5/8" flat/oval now it is getting thick. It is best to use an exacto knife and thin it out, some on each side of the overlap so that it becomes one thickness. I would not suggest butting the ends together because chances are, you would not get it perfect and end up with a small gap.

Guess I'll have to do a video on thinning out the rim.

    Hope this helps!

    Nancy

  • Wow, you are quick! Thanks for the response. I'm using the same 3/8". I'm going to try shaving it and see how that looks. I hope #32 basket will look better than my #1 basket. Your videos are awesome, thanks.

  • That's a cool little tool you have there! I also like how you didn't splice your lashing reed. Very nice.
