Quiapo is one of the poorest neighborhoods of the city of Manila, the capital of The Philippines.
In addition to locals, the district receives many migrants from the countryside and rural areas of the country, who not having the money to afford a house have to build a dwelling on their own, using waste materials and garbage.
Most of these homes have no toilets or sewage system and the waste of households are left directly on the streets or in canals that are now real open-air landfills.
The consequences of this are disastrous for the quarter and for the people who inhabit it. Dengue fever and other tropical diseases are spreading rapidly, and the hygienic conditions are terrible for the many children...
