Yes, you mysterious and elusive Albanybeardguy, Pola was definitely a better singer than Dietrich. Marlene was fascinating and had all the Hollywood hype behind her, but Madame Negri had a mesmerizing voice (sans hype). I am sure Piaf listened to her records and learnt a good deal! A young Swedish girl originally from Persia saw my oil painting of Pola the other day and bought it on the spot, she is a fan of Pola's! The world is full of wonders!! Isn't it moving?! Pola lives on!!

The words, music & her voice make this song just heartachingly beautiful. Even if I like her version better in German. This is still gorgeous.
