Fürstin / Princess Daisy von Pless was THE glamour star of the late Victorian era / Kaiser Wilhelm era before begin of world war I. English aristocratic girl married one of the richest men of the world: Fürst / Prince von Pless and Fürst von Fürstenstein (and 100 other titles). The owner of whole Down-Slesia with the big industry centre Kattowitz ff. (till today the third biggest industry area of Europe !). The first half of her life was something like a super glamour life beween emperors, kings and queens.
In WW I she worked in hospitals and lazarettes to help the many wounded soldiers and victims. Her life changed totally and some years after war she was divorced from the Prince.
She worked in social and health institutions. In 1943 she died forgotten and very poor in Berlin.

Very famous was her pearl neckless with a length of 7 metres. The pearls of that time were originally grown pearls and their worth was in carat the fourth of (best) diamonds. The price of this 7m-neckless was at that time 3 mio. GoldMark. That may be today about 15 mio. Dollars. Probably it was the most expensive gem / jewelry work at that time at all. One could buy a whole big castle with very much land at that time for 3 Mio. GoldMark.
It´s no info to find about this super neckless after 1918. My Renate and me think that she could keep it after the divorce. But she had to sell it. And it´s thinkable that she gave the most of the money to social or health institutions. The same with her other enormous jewels. It´s well known that she gave all her money after the divorce to institutions which helped poor and sick people.

  • The necklace was not among the many gems Daisy kept.It was seized by the Soviets in 1945 when they confiscated the Pless property.

Daisy died in a small spa town v near Furstenstein.
