Dissassembly of a Dissertation - Episode 2

On December 9th 2009 Wikileaks.org published the first 102 pages of Kent Hovind's doctoral dissertation. We say the first 102 pages but in fact the whole thesis is apparently published in full.

Although the introduction states that there are 16 chapters it only details the first three in any detail with only a single sentence used to define chapters 4 through to 16. In fact when the whole document is examined it only goes up to chapter 4.

The dissertation is untitled and is simply labeled as "Dissertation for Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Education" and has been printed on a dot matrix printer.

The writing style of the whole document, including spelling and grammatical errors, is laughable and is more akin to a high school assignment than the kind of work that would be submitted to a university as a submission for a doctorate. The subject matter rambles wildly off topic frequently and does not in fact in any way address the subject matter it is purported to relate to.

If this is the full and final dissertation and not a very rough draft or a sample of notes - independent sources indicate that it is indeed the finished article - then either nobody at Patriot University actually read it before they gave Kent his qualification or they didnt need to and that one could obtain a PhD from this university by simply faxing them a copy of the Beano as that is about as relevant to the subject concerned as Kent's dissertation is.

When previously questioned about his disseration by others who have previously obtained this manuscript, MR Hovind has stated that the manuscript is indeed the disseration submitted in 1991 and that it has been greatly expanded upon since however a doctoral dissertation is intended as a completed work and once submitted as evidence of a doctorate is NEVER amended or expanded afterwards.

As this document has been published on a public web site and is a dissertation submitted as evidence of academic study in order to obtain an academic qualification I have subjected it to peer review.

This video is the second in a series that disassembles MR Kent Hovinds dissertation page-by-page, line-by-line and exposes that fact that not only is MR Kent Hovind a tax fraudster but he is also an academic fraudster as well.

Can this man tell the truth about anything?

And yes, before it is pointed out that the word dissassembly in the title is spelt wrong, this spelling mistake is a deliberate homage to the many spelling mistakes in MR Hovids dissertation.

I can not believe that I have got through 5 of these since Saturday without my head melting.

Number 6 is still in production. There is a lot of chopping and editing with the audio to remove the laughter and so it fits into a 10 min timeslot (virtually each sentence and comment is a seperate segment). CS4 is playing up so sometimes it cuts off the last second of the audio segments and you don't notice until its encoded as its OK in the preview.

The "nothing new under the sun" line is especially funny appearing in a "doctoral thesis", since the usual benchmark applied for awarding a PhD is having made "a significant and *original* contribution to the sum of human knowledge".

Thank you for your sacrifice, good sir. I got about a third of the way through the "dissertation" before the retching simply became uncontrollable.

Perhaps I'll go back to it once my stomach settles. For now, it makes it a little better having your reassuring voice guiding me through it.

Obviously the 'university' didn't read this pile of crap. They just looked for the cheque.  Reminds me of one of the jokes my Grandfather (an Anglican Priest) told about a friend of his who applied to a yank uni for a degree. They sent him a letter asking for payment, the applicant replied 'I put the cheque in the middle of my doctoral dissertation'.
