such a good song

@galadrielsstar The church, the historians, the victors, the teachers and the youtube commenters. Ha ha - where's the truth? Might as well enjoy the telling of your story - it's as good as the other guys and in the big picture as accurate. Josh does a good job of doing that. Oh - and so do you. Wait a minute - I just noticed he's in a record store. Wow, what commitment.

The keys to the Kingdom are locked inside the Kingdom... by the Church... and 'they' will be its keepers. The Magdalene goes forward... a girl in a war now, teaching... sparkling, bubbling over with the word... and falls like rain on the hard, hard pavement of the emerging Church.
Lyrical interpretation is just that.. interpretation. But for those that know the Magdalene story, this song fits, intended to or not, in a beautiful and powerful way that can stir your very soul.

Talking to God is now like Laurel begging Hardy for a gun... hold it to your head and flag pops and says BANG. The Church makes itself the only vehicle to God. Mary is the girl in the war... a wife, a mother, a Teacher in her own right... now she is defamed, her story twisted by the emerging Church as it denies the Divine Feminine... the female aspect of Divinity... and in fact oppresses all women. And more, Mary knows the truth about the resurrection... she MUST be silenced in history.

as the power struggle heats up in Jerusalem, Mary (and the children) are in France... the Book of Love, and the teachings of The Way go on... they will root and give life to the Cathar community there eventually. But the formative "Church" usurps His teachings... to consolidate power, to control... and the Dove up above has become a Dragon. It is no longer "the Kingdom of Heaven is within." It is now 'the ONLY way to Heaven is through the Church... and give yourself to me, or die a heretic.'

Agreed.

This song absolutely kills me every single time I hear it! Some of the best crafted lyrics I've heard since Dylan.
